The End

Completed my research placement this evening. What a great placement! Learned a lot. Actually what I had been doing was to assist a postgraduate student in her research project which is to develop oral delivery insulin. Insulin is usually injected subcutaneously; It does not exist in oral administration formulation due to its instability in the gastrointestinal tract. Therefore, oral administration with a lower cost and more convenient drug administration method must be introduced.

One thing I would like to mention here is - dissolving insulin is really stressful; Cause 50mg of insulin costs RM600++. Imagine that. 50MILLIGRAMS not gram. Dropping one small spatula of insulin on the table can cost up to hundreds. And no mistake can be made during the preparation work. =_=

Before

After
They are emulsions with insulin in them.

Freeze-drying my product.=) Freeze-drying is to sublime a frozen formulation from solid phase to gas phase.

See two layers there? The white layer is cotton wool kinda material and it's floating! The bottom layer is just air.

Li Ming! The postgraduate student who helped and taught me alot.=) Thx!

Kimberly and I. After preparing formulations for the whole morning. She's leaving to the UK this Sept. All the best Kim!

Time to complete the reports and move on. What's next? Community pharmacy.=)
